Farewell, Mook. But I know we’ll always be together.
Our beloved Newfoundland, Mook, who had been the face of our shop, crossed the rainbow bridge.
It had been two weeks since Mook went to heaven. Gradually, as we received countless encouraging e‑mails from all of you and kept busy with orders from customers, we found the strength to smile again.
On that final morning, Mook seemed to hear my brother’s footsteps—and quietly, as if holding his breath, he passed away. His body was still warm, and his expression so gentle.
Since my brother was the one who took care of him every morning, I like to think Mook held on, waiting for him to come.
That spring, Mook was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and had to undergo surgery, which resulted in the loss of his left foreleg. He seemed to recover well afterward—so much so that the veterinarian said he could hardly believe Mook was still alive. But in September, a CT scan revealed metastasis to his lungs.
From then on, he weakened quickly. One morning when I’d just had a dream about Mook, I received an e‑mail from my brother telling after mook passed away.
There is a pet cremation facility near our home, and we went there as a family. The altar was beautifully arranged, with lots of offerings—Mook’s favorite treats, a plush Hello Kitty toy, and fresh flowers. I’m truly grateful to the staff for making it so lovely and heartfelt.
Our brand was born from Mook’s photo. As I was knitting using a picture of him, friends and family asked if I could make one for them too. That’s how “Knit My Pet” products started coming into being.
Since our brand was born from Mook’s photo, I want to keep him alive in our hearts and keep doing my best with that spirit.
With a little help from Mook, we will continue cherishing the bonds between pet owners and their companions as we create more products. Thank you all so much.
Goodbye, Mook. And from here on out, let’s keep going together.
